Benidorm Accessible
Benidorm is one of the most representative tourist destinations in Spain and the Mediterranean. The City Council, as the entity that manages the destination and is aware of this reality, is aware that investing in accessible tourism represents a fundamental opportunity to consolidate itself as a quality, friendly and welcoming destination, synonymous with the kindness and hospitality of its people.
In addition to being recognised as an Accessible Tourist Destination 2018 by the company Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions, the city of Benidorm has recently become the first Smart Tourist Destination certified with the Q Mark of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE), after passing the certification audit in 2018 by the UNE 178501 standard for the Smart Tourist Destination Management System (SGDTI), promoted by SEGITTUR (State Society for the Management of Innovation and Tourism Technologies), which recognises improvements in the quality of the tourist experience and the relationship between residents and visitors, quality of the tourist experience, also about Universal Accessibility, being one of the 5 fundamental axes of a smart tourist destination.
The project is based on the Collaboration Agreement between Benidorm City Council and PREDIF (State Representative Platform for People with Physical Disabilities), which expresses the "interest in jointly developing the 1st Benidorm Tourist Accessibility Plan". The main objective of this project is the development of strategic lines around tourist products and services unified around a brand, focusing on the enhancement of differentiating factors for improving the positioning of Benidorm as an accessible destination.
