The mayor and the rest of the members of the DTI Management Entity sign this commitment while the process of joining the INSTO is moving forward
Benidorm embraces the UN Tourism principles to "measure, evaluate, and govern tourism in a responsible and regenerative manner"

The governing body of Benidorm Smart Tourism Destination (DTI) has officially adopted the UN Tourism principles to "measure, evaluate, and govern tourism in a responsible and regenerative manner." Mayor Toni Pérez was the first to sign this commitment today, which was subsequently endorsed by the other members of the governing body, the body responsible for meeting the objectives, policy, and continuous improvement of the management system based on the UNE 178501 standard.
Specifically, the document includes 12 commitments: strengthening local community satisfaction with tourism; promoting the economic benefits of tourism for the destination; fostering employment; managing the seasonality of tourism and energy use in accommodation and transportation; strengthening air quality and water management; strengthening wastewater treatment systems; promoting the transition to a circular economy in waste management; creating partnerships to strengthen governance; maintaining a regenerative and circular smart system; and protecting and regenerating the biodiversity of local ecosystems.
The signing of this commitment comes as Benidorm advances in the process of joining the World Tourism Organisation's International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO), to which it submitted its candidacy last February.
Benidorm's candidacy is part of the project "Improvement and implementation of sustainability systems and progress in the SDGs," endowed with €45,000 and one of the latest initiatives in the "Benidorm DTI + Seguro" Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan, jointly promoted by the Government of Spain, the Generalitat Valenciana (Generalitat Valenciana), and Benidorm City Council to continue advancing safe, sustainable, and smart governance, boosting Benidorm's tourism sector.
