'Benidorm Medieval' promotes shopping tourism coinciding with the Poblament Charter
Promoted by AICO and Abreca, with the support of the City Council, this 2nd edition will install a market with 100 stalls
There will also be a children's play area in Tomás Ortuño, and the bars in Santo Domingo Street will bring their gastronomy
From 4 to 7 May Benidorm will return to the Middle Ages. For the second consecutive year, the Association of Independent Merchants (AICO) and Abreca, with the collaboration of Commerce and Fiestas departments, have organized 'Benidorm Medieval', an initiative that this edition coincides with the commemorative acts of the Poblament Charter and with which it is wanted to enhance the tourism of purchases.
This morning the councilors of Commerce and Fiestas, Ana Pellicer and Jesús Carrobles, and the president of AICO, Raúl Parra, have explained the details of this 'Benidorm Medieval' that will have as an epicenter a market that will be installed in the Park of Elche and that in this second edition, it goes from 80 to a hundred artisan stalls, including those of local entities such as Asmibe, AFEM, Aerbeco, the Festes Majors Patronals Commission and the Penyes Associació. Apart from the stalls, the medieval market will offer 50 entertainment shows, 48 musical performances and several children's attractions.
But in addition, 'Benidorm Medieval' will be lived in two other areas: the pedestrianized section of Tomás Ortuño Street, where a children's play area with workshops will be installed; and that of Santo Domingo street, where various establishments of restoration will join the initiative with decoration and dishes related to that time.
Pellicer and Carrobles have highlighted the fact that in this second edition ' Benidorm Medieval' "merges with the commemoration of the Charter of Poblament", whose representation this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. Both have invited all citizens of the region and the province to travel to Benidorm those days to enjoy this initiative, which "has a spectacular potential in a tourist city like ours," according to the president of AICO.
Parra has assured that this event is "a complement for tourists" that are in the city in those dates and also a claim to attract the residents of other points, "mainly foreigners", so that once in Benidorm they buy in the About 1,800 local shops or consume in the catering establishments
Acts of the Poblament Charter
The events for the 692 anniversary of the granting of the Charter of Poblament will begin next Tuesday, May 2, at 8.30 pm with the inauguration of the exhibition '25 anys de somnis i realitats' in the Espai d'Art of the City Council. In the same act will be presented the comic on the Charter of Poblament that has been designed coinciding with the anniversary of the staging. On Wednesday, May 3, at 9:00 p.m., Carta de Poblament Group will represent the play "Pudo suceder" at the Casa del Fester; and the next day, at the same time, the church of Santa Jaume i Santa Ana will host a concert by the Cambra i Cors Orquestra de la Unió Musical.
In addition, from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 May the Medieval Market will take place, which will be located in Park of Elche and Alcalde José Such street and which will feature entertainment and shows.
On this occasion, the presentation of the act of granting the Poblament Charter of Benidorm by Admiral Bernat de Sarrià, scheduled for Saturday at 9.30 pm, will be moved to the Óscar Esplá amphitheater at L' Aigüera Park, which was the first space in which this historic event was staged. The events commemorated by the foundation of Benidorm will conclude on Monday, May 8, the anniversary of the granting of the Charter of Poblament, with the celebration at noon of the institutional plenary day of Benidorm.
