Benidorm executes the integral renovation of Callosa d’en Sarrià street

02 December 2021
Participación Ciudadana

Benidorm City Council has started the comprehensive renovation works on Callosa d'en Sarrià street, works that are being carried out by the technical services brigade and workers who have been incorporated thanks to ECOVID program.
The councilors of Public Space and Citizenship Participation, José Ramón González de Zárate, have visited the works this morning accompanied by the vice president of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido, and residents of the street within the campaign 'A pie de calle' that every Thursday visit the different neighborhoods of the city.
González de Zárate has pointed out that acting on this street was "a necessity" in high demand by residents. In the first place, the mayor explained, all the street tiles will be changed "which are very slippery and will be replaced by other non-slip ones, the same color as those in Colonia Madrid, to be able to walk without problems."
In the same way, action will be taken to improve accessibility in all the zebra crossings as well as protection of the fords and trees will be placed "that right now there are not on the entire street."
The work also includes the installation of cabling for the replacement of streetlights on the entire road, which will be carried out thanks to the IDEA grant "for the replacement of all the lights and placing new ones with a remote management system."
The Councilor for Public Space has also specified that once the work is finished, all the furniture will be changed to have "all the services completely renovated when the work is finished."
The ECOVID program has allowed the hiring of 84 workers for a year, of which 29 have joined the Public Space area. This program, promoted by the City Council, is co-financed with resources from the European Social Fund through LABORA.
It is endowed with two million euros, of which the City Council contributes about 750,000. The remaining amount, just over 1.2 million euros, is financed with European funds. All the people hired have passed a selection process based on the instructions of the General Directorate of LABORA, a process that has been carried out by this body and the City Council, in which the unions have also taken part.
