The works have a budget of 908,303 euros and an execution period of around one year
Benidorm awards the work to improve the environment and public use of Moralet
The work reaches 102 hectares in which trails are adapted and marked, recreational and game areas are created, the old train track is recovered and biodiversity is promoted
The Local Government Board (JGL) has awarded the Moralet Environmental Improvement and Public Use work contract to Grupo Bertolín for a global budget of 908,303.59 euros. This action is included in Benidorm's Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI).
Four offers attended the tender, the best valued by the Contracting Committee being that of Grupo Bertolín, which offered a percentage increase in the measurements of the work units and the project materials of 31.7% over the tender price. "An increase that will be allocated to the execution of works and installations in the area that is the object of the project," explained the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate.
The councilor has pointed out that “it is one of the most emblematic projects of the EDUSI, because it means putting in value and at the disposal of the citizens the main natural green area contiguous to the urban fabric through a network of trails and cycle-paths , recovering the old route of the 'trenet' as a greenway and creating spaces for leisure and recreation ”. González de Zárate has also highlighted that with this action "biodiversity is promoted and ethnological elements of heritage value are rescued".
El Moralet is an area of high landscape and environmental interest that covers more than one million square meters. "With this work we are going to transform this green lung of Benidorm into accessible, fully walkable, signposted and with environmental services to explore its full potential," stressed the mayor, who was "convinced" that when the project is developed the Moralet "It will become a great pole of attraction for lovers of running, mountain biking and for those who enjoy walking through nature, as well as a space for leisure and relaxation."
González de Zárate has detailed that the comprehensive action will extend from Beniardá Avenue and the vicinity of the Guillermo Amor Sports City to La Cala. The cost of the action will be financed partly with municipal resources and partly with European funds.
The project proposes to improve the existing roads, in many cases opened by the passage of people or animals that travel this area daily. These roads will be grouped into paths (for pedestrian traffic), cycle-paths (for pedestrians and bicycles) and vehicular cycle-paths (wider than the previous ones to also allow the passage of emergency vehicles), which will have license plate lighting solar and signage.
In collaboration with the Benidorm Athletics Club and the Mountain Section (BTT) of the Benidorm Cycling Club, three main routes have been delimited, each with a degree of difficulty.
The construction of three recreational areas is also planned next to the wooded area closest to the Vía Parque, in the vicinity of the access road to Moralet from the Sports City and next to the dissuasive car park on Avenida Beniardá. These areas will have picnic areas, a play area and bio-health and garbage collection. In addition, in the last two, landscaped areas with palm trees and aromatic plants will be adapted.
In addition to tree pruning, the area will be enriched with native vegetation and biodiversity will be promoted by creating refuges for birds. At the ethnological level, the project includes the reconstruction of the dry stone terrace walls, a type of construction declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Councilor for Works has stressed that "this project promotes and consolidates the great green belt of Benidorm, which runs parallel to the urban fabric and which joins - and even in some cases connects - to the rest of the large green infrastructures of the city such as Foietes Park, l'Aigüera Park and Séquia Mare Park.
The execution period of the set of actions is around a year and the works will begin after Benidorm Major Patron Saint Festivities .
EDUSI of Benidorm obtained a grant from European funds of 10 million euros. It includes actions for an amount of 23 million, all focused on improving the quality of life of Benidormenses through the improvement of access to information technologies (ICT), the reduction of CO2 emissions, the protection of the environment and the fight against inequality and poverty through inclusion policies ”. "It is a great city project," stressed the councilor.
In addition to the actions that have already begun in Els Tolls and the upper part of Foietes and the awarding of Moralet work, the procedures for two other large-scale projects have also begun, such as the construction of a youth hostel in the area of camping and interpretation center in Parque de la Séquia Mare, and the rehabilitation of the bullring and creation of new cultural and social spaces in its surroundings, “which is the most iconic work of all those collected in the EDUSI and which Due to its size, it will require a longer execution time ”, concluded González de Zárate.
