A group of film production locators visit Benidorm
As a culmination of the Shooting Locations Market Place conference held in Valladolid last week, and that Benidorm Film Office attended, a group of international locators has visited the city and the most emblematic and interesting locations.
In collaboration with Visit Benidorm and Costa Blanca Film Commission and, last night, the group of professionals visited exteriors and locations for film and television productions. Among the displaced team, highlight the presence of the North American Karen T. Salva whose most successful works have been for the films "Joker" and "Now you see me", or the Northern Irishman Robert Boake, distinguished by the International Union of LGTM Locators, as best locator for the 5th season of the series 'Game of Thrones'.
The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, welcomed the members of the fam trip, transferring the involvement of the City Council with a Benidorm film set and the capture of audiovisual productions.
Next, the group made a tour of different areas and locations of the city and its municipal area while Visit Benidorm and Benidorm Film Office highlighted the advantages of filming in Benidorm. The tour included a visit to the terrace of Gran Hotel Bali and exceptional viewpoints such as Sierra Cortina, Torre de les Caletes, including the sunset from La Cruz de Sierra Helada. They also visited both the Old Town and the leisure area on Calle Gerona. The remodeling of Avenida Mediterráneo aroused maximum interest from locators who, in general, have highlighted the enormous possibilities they find in Benidorm due to the versatility of landscapes and spaces, as well as its hotel capacity, essential to accommodate large crews, the immediacy of the International airport Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández and the predisposition and collaboration of Benidorm City Council through Visit Benidorm and Benidorm Film Office.
The figure of the locator (location manager or location scout) is fundamental in any audiovisual project since they are responsible for locating the exteriors, not only for the landscape, but for finding availability from the municipality, professionals and companies in the sector, logistics, accommodation and complementary offer essential to make production a reality. The choice of these places depends not only on the promotional return of the place as a tourist destination, but on the important economic impact that this type of production leaves in the places and cities that host them.
