One more year, the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, June 21, has brought together more than 200 people in front of the gates of the Sant Jaume cemetery and surroundings, in Partida dels Marxassos, to enjoy the vision of the star king as it passes through El Portell del Puig Campana, or Tajo de Roldán.

Only on that day, from this departure from the Huerta de Benidorm, you can see a unique phenomenon that brings together more people every year. An initiative that Jaume Climent discovered and promoted in recent years. The councilors for Historical and Cultural Heritage and Culture, Ana Pellicer and Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with other members of the corporation, were present at the event.

With the promotion of the event by Taula del Bon Profit, Recreational Cultural Association 'La Barqueta' and Benidorm City Council, an annual meeting is consolidated that brings together more residents and curious people every year, becoming one more event on the cultural calendar in Benidorm.

On this occasion, invited by the organizers, professor, and historian Francisco Amillo,  addressed the attendees to vindicate this "new tradition of Benidorm", the contemplation of the solar passage through the cleft of Puig Campana. A tribute to the sun that "for centuries" sustained farm work and, with the arrival of tourism, become "the main asset of Benidorm", promoted Pedro Zaragoza with the slogan "The sun spends the winter in Benidorm".

Lastly, Ana Pellicer addressed the people gathered to vindicate the figure of Jaume Climent and an appointment that, every year, brings together more people, although on this occasion, while the clouds in the sea allowed us to glimpse some clearings, they hid the star king as it passes through El Portell. With "next year we will return", Pellicer summoned the attendees again next year to contemplate the phenomenon.
The summer solstice, in the northern hemisphere called boreal, occurs when, before the geographic pole, the Sun reaches its highest altitude and the day has the longest period of light. Now the nights begin to lengthen.
