Schoolchildren from the CEIP Bautista Lledó participate in the public reading organized by the Department of Historical Heritage

The adventures of Don Quixote resound again in l'Hort de Colón to commemorate the Book Day

29 April 2022
Las aventuras de Don Quijote vuelven a resonar en l’Hort de Colón para conmemorar el Día del Libro

The students have also enjoyed a reading animation activity

The adventures of Alonso Quijano, the famous Don Quixote of La Mancha, and his faithful squire Sancho Panza have resounded again today in l'Hort de Colón during the public and uninterrupted reading of the work of Miguel de Cervantes with which Benidorm has commemorated, one more year, Book Day. The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, has been in charge of starting the reading at the exact point where it ended last year: the middle of chapter 14, in which the Song of Grisóstomo is recounted.

From then on, the adventures of the hidalgo have been narrated in the voice, among others, of members of the Municipal Corporation, the 4th-grade student of the CEIP Bautista Lledó; and members of the Cleben and Afratex associations. Of the latter, Pellicer recalled that she "has been actively collaborating with this initiative of public and uninterrupted reading of 'Don Quixote' since its first edition, which is now 20 years old".

Pellicer, who directs the area of Historical and Cultural Heritage, has highlighted that "in the last two decades Benidorm has not missed its appointment with Book Day and with this public reading of 'Don Quixote'. She did it even during the pandemic when adapting to the circumstances, we continued the activity with a virtual reading, through videoconference platforms and using social networks”. "This year -she added- the situation has allowed us to recover attendance and with it to be able to count on the new generations of readers, represented on this occasion by the CEIP Bautista Lledó students".

A student body who after the reading has been able to enjoy a reading animation activity is also promoted by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage.

The acting mayor recalled that "this year we have delayed the celebration of Book Day for a few days precisely to add to this public reading the little ones, who have returned to the classroom this week after the Easter school holidays".
