Benidorm will celebrate Festa de la Creu again on Sunday after two years without doing so due to the pandemic
Like every first of May, although after two years without being celebrated due to the pandemic, Benidorm will wake up on Sunday with the celebration of the Festa de la Creu, a very endearing and deeply rooted celebration in the town that has become over the years in one of the most popular of the festive calendar.
Tomorrow, Saturday night, starting at 10 pm, the Creu will begin to be adorned with hundreds of carnations on Via Emilio Ortuño thanks to the women of the commission chaired by Paqui Calvo Pérez. This act of dressing in the Creu will be enlivened by the Colla de Xirimiters de la Marina and the attendees will be presented with sweet wine and 'coca roñosa', (a typical pie).
The big day will be Sunday, a day that will begin at 8 in the morning with a general ringing of the bells in the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana, followed by a parade in which Colla de Xirimiters participates. At 11 o'clock the retinue of festive entities and authorities will travel in pilgrimage from the church to the Creu, where the blessing of the municipal term will take place. Then, the boy Daniel Saval Martínez will recite the traditional verse to Santa Creu.
After the flower offering, a mass will be celebrated, enlivened by Coro de la Barqueta. The program of the Festa de la Creu will end on Tuesday, May 3 with a mass for the dead in San Jaime at 7:00 p.m.
