El XXIV Campeonato de Ornitología ‘Villa de Benidorm’ se cierra con más de 800 aves inscritas

The 24th Villa de Benidorm Ornithological Championship closed yesterday, Sunday, with more than 800 registered birds from breeders in up to eight Spanish provinces. The competition took place over the weekend at Palau d’Esports l’Illa’s Carrer de Pilota facilities and enjoyed “a large turnout of spectators and participants despite the inclement weather,” according to the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, who was in charge of presenting the trophies yesterday alongside the president of the Benidorm Ornithological Society, Paco Ibi.

Among the birds entered in the competition, some from local and regional breeders, were canaries, exotic birds, goldfinches, parakeets, lovebirds, and forpus.

Benidorm Ornithological Society highlighted "the quality of the birds on display",—which were judged by eight of the best judges on the national and international circuit, and noted that several local breeders "have been winning medals in all the Spanish Championships and all the World Championships for several years."
