The performance was carried out by a group of members of the Association of Penyes, as part of the events of the '700th Anniversary'

A packed audience at the farce 'It Could Happen', which humorously imagines the history of the Town Charter

09 May 2025
Pudo suceder

The Assembly Hall of La Casa del Fester was packed with people last Thursday evening to witness the farce "Pudo sucede" (It Could Have Happened), performed by a group of members of the Benidorm Verge del Sofratge Association of Penyes. This humorous performance depicts what it may have been like when Admiral Bernat de Sarrià wrote the Benidorm Town Charter on May 8, 1325.

Mayor Toni Pérez, along with the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other representatives of the municipal council, accompanied members of the peñistas and the public at this event, which was also attended by the president of the Association of Penyes, Jonathan López de las Huertas; the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez, and their ladies-in-waiting; as well as the president of the 2025 Festival Commission, Susana Martínez.

"Pudo sucede" (It Could Happen), a work by Vanessa Navarro, was first performed in 2014, and after several years off the stage, it was revived this year as part of the commemorative activities for the 700th anniversary of the founding of Benidorm.

Anniversary Agenda

In addition to this performance and the events already held, the commemoration of the 700th Anniversary of the founding of Benidorm will continue in the coming days.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Plaça de Sant Jaume will host a performance of the Carta Pobla by the Carta de Poblament Group of the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge, with Rafael Alemany Ferrer as host. The performance will take place at 9:30 p.m., and this time, the performance will also feature musical accompaniment from a group of ancient musical instruments.

The following day, on Sunday, May 11, a concert by the Societat Musical l’Illa de Benidorm will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Cultural Centre Auditorium. In parallel, and as a complement to these events, the area surrounding Elche Park will host the "Medieval Benidorm" event over the weekend, a market with stalls and countless shows and entertainment.

Finally, on Sunday, May 18, at 8:00 p.m., the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna will host another concert by Capella de Ministrers.
