The event will bring together 5,000 club members from April 24 to 26 and this year will feature numerous new developments in terms of infrastructure and security
Benidorm City Council is contributing 20,000 euros to help organize the 'Camping' of the clubs
Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Fiestas, will once again collaborate with the Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’ in organising the traditional “Acampada” (camping event) for the 'peñas' (clubs), one of the most popular events in the city. The event will take place on April 24, 25, and 26 at the venue on Avenida Juan Pablo II, in Vía Parque. Mayor Toni Pérez and the president of the peñas association, Diego Carrasco, signed a collaboration agreement this Wednesday, under which the City Council will contribute €20,000 to cover part of the expenses related to organising the event. Also present at the signing were the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the peñas board.
Both the mayor and the councilor for Fiestas emphasized that the 'peñas camping' is "one of the major festival events outside the calendar directly related to our Patron Saint Festivities in November," and that "the Association and the City Council go all out each year to offer the clubs a well-equipped area with the best possible services and amenities, where they can spend these days of camaraderie and fun in the best possible way."
For his part, the president of the Associació de Penyes (clubs association) specified that, according to pre-registration data, 5,000 peñas members, both adults and children, will participate in this year's scheduled activities. Furthermore, this year the allocation and selection of plots will continue to be done by lottery, as has been the practice in recent years.
Venue setup
Likewise, preparations for setting up the entire infrastructure have already begun this week. This year's event will feature significant improvements in both services and security.
Among these improvements, the entire perimeter where the tents will be set up will be fenced. Furthermore, access to the grounds will be restricted to members of the peñas (social clubs) and will require a personalised wristband, which must be worn at all times while on the encampment. To enhance security, the police presence will be reinforced with private security, and only non-member guests will be permitted entry on Sunday morning, according to the Associació (Association).
Regarding other infrastructure, the installation of light poles, electrical and water connections, and public restrooms is also planned. This year, an additional restroom facility is scheduled to be added.
The Councillor for Fiestas also announced that, as in previous years, they are working in coordination with other councillors, such as Mobility, Public Service and Street Cleaning, to implement special bus, taxi, Local Police and cleaning and waste collection services; as well as with the Equality and Social Welfare departments, which will again deploy their Purple Point and the ‘Coneixement’ campaign to prevent the consumption of alcohol and other harmful substances.
