‘El Cover’ and ‘Ama’, feature films shot in the city, have six nominations
Benidorm, present at Berlanga Awards of Valencian audiovisual with the support of five productions
Benidorm will be very present at the Berlanga Awards, organized by Acadèmia Valenciana de l’Audiovisual and which will be held on December 4. Up to five productions recorded partially or almost entirely in the city are among the nominees in the different categories. The mayor, Toni Pérez, has indicated that "it is very satisfactory to see how productions that have chosen Benidorm as a set for their shootings are now recognized for their work and quality by opting for these Valencian audiovisual awards".
According to the information made public by the organization of the awards, 'El Cover', Secun de la Rosa's 'debut feature', has accumulated five nominations for Best Original Music, Best Supporting Actress, Best Sound, Best Costumes and Best Makeup and Barber Shop. This feature film began to be filmed before the outbreak of the pandemic and its filming was affected by the declaration of the state of alarm. 'El Cover' crew, made up of 60 people plus figuration, returned to Benidorm at the end of June 2020 to complete the filming, in locations such as Levante and Mal Pas beaches, the port, the English area, the nightclubs in Comunidad Valenciana avenue and a hotel establishment.
For her part, ‘Ama’, the film with which Julia de Paz makes her directorial debut, is opting for the Best Leading Actress award for the role played by Tamara Casellas. Filmed practically on the same dates as' El Cover ', Ama' resumed recording in the city after the state of alarm, concentrating the filming in a single day on Paseo de Poniente, Levante beaches, the old town and different establishments in the city. Mediterráneo avenue and Gerona street.
Also with a nomination will compete in Berlanga Awards, the documentary feature ‘Here comes the sun’, by Nakamura Films, with general resources and interviews filmed in Benidorm. In the category of Best Fiction Short Film is ‘Mindanao’, shot in a hotel establishment in the city.
The fifth production linked to Benidorm is the feature film ‘Las Consecuencias’, whose underwater images were recorded on the island and which is one of the most nominated films at these Berlanga Awards, with a total of nine nominations.
The mayor has assured that “once again, Benidorm sounds strongly due to its connection to the seventh art; something that is not accidental, but the result of the work carried out by the Benidorm Film Office ”.
