The action, framed in the Tourism Sustainability Plan, will involve an investment of 47,812 euros

Benidorm renews the channeling of public lighting and municipal services on Poniente beach

Benidorm renueva la canalización del alumbrado público y los servicios municipales en la playa de Poniente

Benidorm City Council is acting to renew the channeling of public lighting and municipal services on Poniente Beach, an action that is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan that will make it possible to put an end to an infrastructure that is damaged and prevented the renewal of the electrical networks for public lighting in the area and the laying of new electrical supply and telecommunications wiring for the new sensors and technological devices to be implemented.

Specifically, the work will focus on Vicente Llorca Alós Avenue. To carry it out, 262.2 meters of channeling will be implemented on the road and eleven connections to the existing streetlights, installing as many 40x40 manholes with cast iron covers.

In this work, the installation of an external, thermally insulated electrical panel has also been planned, to enable the renewal of the deteriorated elements of the electrical protections of public lighting, as well as the implementation of future sensors and removable technological elements that will be implemented. The planned investment is 47,812.34 euros and the execution period is one month.

The action, as has been said, is included in the Tourism Sustainability Plan derived from the agreement signed in December 2020 between the City Council, the Secretary of State for Tourism, and Turisme Comunitat Valenciana. The objective of this plan is to contribute effectively to the sustainability and recovery of the tourism sector after the crisis caused by COVID-19. This is, as explained at the time, a contingency plan whose main purpose is to consolidate Benidorm as a smart, sustainable, and safe tourist destination, by implementing a total of 19 actions.

The actions are grouped around four main points. Specifically, the first one: “Infrastructures, more accessible and sustainable connected tourist resources”, includes an action aimed at 'Smart Lab Beaches', to create fiber optic and voltage access points for future installations of different sensors on Poniente Beach. This will make it possible to have more accessible and sustainable connected tourist infrastructures and resources, a space to test the use of innovations and competitive transformation data in Benidorm, have data to make informed decisions about the beach and the coastal maritime area, organize the maritime space and the use of ICT for tourism management.
