The application period for these grants is open until July 31st and is aimed at students enrolled in universities that do not offer student transportation services
The application period for University transport grants for young people from Benidorm is now open
The Department of Education of Benidorm City Council has opened the application period for individual transport grants for university students studying in the provinces of Alicante—excluding the University of Alicante and the Sant Joan d’Alacant campus of Miguel Hernández University—Valencia, and Castellón, where no organised student transport service is available.
The Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, explained that “these grants aim to help reduce the cost of bus or train travel incurred by university students from Benidorm throughout the previous academic year when travelling to public higher education centres in the three provinces to complete their undergraduate degrees.”
She also recalled that “students at the University of Alicante and the Sant Joan campus also have access to another line of support, UNIBUS, which subsidises the cost of the bus service provided and funded by the City Council itself,” adding that, in this case, the grants are awarded through a different procedure.
Moreno stated that “as in previous academic years, the amount of this grant for non-organised university transport is proportional to the expenditure incurred by each student for this purpose between October 2025 and June 2026, and it can cover up to 50% of the total cost.” For this year’s call, the Department of Education has allocated a budget of €5,000.
These grants are available to university students registered as residents of Benidorm since at least 1 January 2025 who are studying undergraduate degrees at universities in the Valencian Community that do not have an organised student transport service. The Councillor for Education also indicated that the terms and conditions include students enrolled at public Higher Artistic Education centres in the Valencian Community offering programmes leading to a degree-level qualification as possible beneficiaries.
These grants are incompatible with other financial aid provided by public or private institutions for the same purpose. They do not apply to PhD students, specialist courses, university-specific qualifications, master’s degrees or postgraduate studies.
Applications must be submitted online through the City Council’s Electronic Office at https://sede.benidorm.org by selecting the relevant procedure within the Services Catalogue. The full terms and conditions of the call can be found on the City Council's official notice board and https://benidorm.org/es/ayuntamiento/concejalias/educacion/ayudas/ayudas-al-transporte-universitario-no-asociativo
The application period will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on 31 July.
Regarding last year’s call for applications, Maite Moreno explained that “a total of 28 university students applied for and received this municipal grant for non-organised transport, in addition to those who also benefit from travel discounts through the UNIBUS programme.”
