The Municipal School Council approves 11 November, 7 December and 15 February as local school holidays for the 2026–2027 academic year

Benidorm gathers the needs of educational centers to implement the funds for air conditioning classrooms announced by the Generalitat

Benidorm recaba las necesidades de los centros educativos para ejecutar los fondos para climatizar aulas anunciados por la Generalitat

Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Education, has begun gathering information on the needs of the city's public schools to implement the funds announced last week by the President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca. These funds are earmarked for addressing the initial need for classroom climate control. This was announced by the councillor for the department, Maite Moreno, after the meeting of the Municipal School Council, which held its regular session this morning and was chaired by Mayor Toni Pérez.

Moreno noted that, with this emergency measure, "the Generalitat will provide schools with between €5,000 and €25,000 to begin adapting classrooms and minimising the discomfort caused by the heat for students and teachers." Therefore, the City Council "has asked them to provide their technical and infrastructure requirements to plan and facilitate the implementation" of the projects funded by these funds.

Specifically, school management teams have been asked to "communicate any preliminary actions necessary for the proper installation and commissioning of air conditioning systems," such as a possible increase in contracted electrical power, the adaptation or modification of electrical installations, the execution of complementary works, or any other technical intervention that would guarantee the viability of these projects, as Moreno explained.

"This way, we will be able to understand the specific needs of each school and coordinate the actions that the City Council needs to take to move forward with these air conditioning plans," he stated.

In addition to this matter, the Municipal School Council also addressed other issues at its meeting today. Among them, the school calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year was approved. Throughout the Valencian Community, the school year for preschool, primary, secondary, high school, and vocational training will begin on September 9 and end on June 18 of next year. Within the power of each municipality to approve the three local holidays or days of free disposal in the generic calendar, the Municipal School Council has proposed and agreed to designate Wednesday, November 11, as a non-teaching day, coinciding with the Patron Saint Festivities; Monday, December 7; and Monday, February 15, as non-teaching days.
