‘Villa de Benidorm’ Festive Music Composition Contest and the exaltation of positions, a prelude to the Moors and Christians festivities
For the first time in the same year, two women will represent the highest festive positions
The 22nd 'Villa de Benidorm' Festive Music Composition Contest and the exaltation of positions will announce this Saturday, the 23rd, the imminent arrival of the Moors and Christians Festival, which will be celebrated from September 28 to October 1. The councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez; the councillor of Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros; and the president of the Association of Moors and Christians, Francis Teuler, held a working meeting today to finalize the details of Saturday's event and concert, which as usual will be performed by Benidorm Unión Musical.
Pérez recalled that “last August 15, and continuing with what was established in the rules of the Composition Contest, the verdict of the technical jury was made public to award the first prize of the contest to the pasodoble presented under the motto 'Essència', which It will be performed for the first time this Saturday.” It will be at its premiere when "we learn the authorship and definitive title of the work, which will obtain a cash prize of 2,000 euros and a trophy awarded by the Department of Culture of the Benidorm City Council."
The mayor of the area has stressed that "our contest is not only fully consolidated but also in this edition, it has set a record of participation, with 31 pieces in competition." A contest that was called in the pasodoble modality.
Likewise, after several years without having festive positions due to the situation derived from the pandemic, the Moors and Christians recovered "the greatest festive figures", as specified by the Festival Councilor. Furthermore, as the president of the Association has highlighted, there is the particularity that "for the first time in the history of our festivals the two sides will be led at the same time by women, since Rosa Company and Mª Carmen Moreno, from the clubs Cavallers de la Baronia and Nazaries, will be the Christian and Moor Queens respectively.”
The concert, Composition Competition, and exaltation of positions will take place starting at 9:00 p.m. in Óscar Esplá Auditorium. The concert will be divided into two parts, in each of which Unión Musical will perform three pieces chosen by each of the ranks until completing the six that make up the program.
In the intermission of both parties, Vicente Ivars, UNDEF delegate, will announce the festivities; while at the end of the second part, the composition contest prize will be awarded.
