Benidorm celebrates its second 'Gerolimpiadas'
'Pepa Esperanza' Municipal Social Center of La Cala hosted this morning the celebration of the second Gerolimpiadas, organized by AFA (Association of Family Members, Patients with Alzheimer's and Collaborators) of the Marina Baixa with the collaboration of the Department of Social Welfare of Benidorm City Council, an activity framed within Alzheimer's Week 2023.
Users from La Savia and Ballesol senior residences and 6th-grade Primary students from CEIP El Murtal participated in the activity, who were joined by members of ASMIBE (Association of People with Disabilities of Benidorm and Region) and Red Cross volunteers.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, attended the awards ceremony, along with the regional deputy José Ramón Gonzalez de Zárate and the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer. In it, all participants were presented with an accreditation diploma, a medal, and a small batch of artisan soaps, made by AFA members.
World Alzheimer's Day is commemorated around the world on September 21. For this reason, on Thursday, AFA will install three information tables in Benidorm: at Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España, next to 'La Palmera', and in Tomás Ortuño, in front of the health center. That day, at noon, a manifesto will be read outside the Town Hall, an event that will be attended by local authorities and to which AFA invites the entire population.
