They will be double-glazed safety rails, similar to those that were installed in El Castell after its restoration
The views from Tamarindos will win with new transparent balustrades
Historical Heritage will install new safety glass balustrades at Paseo de Tamarindos viewpoint. The action, authorized today by the General Directorate of Coasts, is a complement to the recently completed restoration works on the stairs of the Promenade that connect with the beach.
In the argumentation for the authorization of Coasts, which, remember, depends on the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, it supports the project carried out by Benidorm City Council because in addition to the "conservation and maintenance of the existing facilities", they represent a " improvement of people's safety ”.
The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, who also holds the Citizen Participation department, recalled that the residents of La Cala were, in one of the meetings of the campaign, promoted by the City Council and the Neighbourhood Council, who suggested the need to improve the condition of the stairs. Once entered into the matter, the reports of the municipal technicians advised carrying out a larger work to guarantee the safety of passersby, which is "what has been done."
"Once the access work to the promenade is finished," said Pellicer, "the next step is to condition the balustrade which, as can be seen, needs to be restored". From Tamarindos you can see one of the most iconic images of the city that covers the entire Poniente Promenade to Punta Canfali. Therefore, taking into account “the great reception” that the replacement in El Castell had, after its comprehensive rehabilitation last year, of part of the stone-by-glass balustrade, Ana Pellicer announced today that this is how the new ones on Tamarindo Promenade will be.
"They are made of double safety glass, the councilor specified." Vinyl butyral, a chemical compound "that guarantees great adherence and durability", will be used for its union. This type of railing, in addition to El Castell, "was also installed on Emilio Ortuño bridge, with excellent results," she recalled. In Tamarindos, "there will be three sections of balustrade, around 40 linear meters" of glass, "explained Pellicer.
The Historical Heritage action is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Public Space, directed by José Ramón González de Zárate. This has recalled that the City Council, in interventions of this type, "city management", intervenes taking into account "the small details". That is why the mandatory steps have been taken with the General Directorate of Coasts to install new smart street lamps between Vicente Llorca Alós and Tamarindos. With that "we win - he has specified - that people can walk 24 hours a day" and, above all, "in security".
Regarding the execution of Tamarindos work, González de Zárate explained that "more than 400,000 euros" have been invested and has allowed "the securing of the sewer system". As a complement, all urban furniture such as benches or wastebaskets have been renovated.
The intervention, without being an "extension" of Poniente Promenade to Tamarindos, has left the section "very dignified", he pointed out. The promenade has been tidied up and cleaned. In addition, "at the request of the residents, the traffic has been reorganized", avoiding with bollards that cars can access until the end and gaining a space so that residents and visitors can enjoy strolling the splendid views that our city offers.
