The event has more than 700 participants from 16 countries
The Palau d'Esports will host the 1st International Kick Boxing Open of Spain from today
From today until Sunday, November 21, Palau d'Esports L’Illa de Benidorm hosts the first International Open of Spain of Kick Boxing, which is organized by the Spanish Federation of Kick Boxing.
As reported at a press conference by the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, in this first edition of the championship "more than 700 athletes from 16 countries" will take part. They will participate in all scheduled disciplines and categories, which are distributed on tatami and ring.
The councilor for Sports stressed that it is a project "in which we have been working for almost two years" but that due to health circumstances "it has not been possible to do before." Cebreros added that “the important thing is that it is already here and that the participants and companions who come will be able to enjoy the city. The sports and tourism binomial is perfect ”.
The organization has arranged six tatami mats and a ring where high-level athletes will parade "since it is an event of international rank," said the vice president of the Spanish Kick Boxing Federation, Ana Isabel Sordo.
The event will have three tatami modalities and another three ring modalities, in which athletes "from 10 to 55 years old will take part to show that it is a sport for all ages." One of the goals is to get the Open on the WAKO World Cup calendar.
Today, Thursday, athletes and coaches will register with the weighing control, recognitions and Covid protocols until they collect the accreditation so that, from tomorrow Friday, everyone will take part in the preliminary rounds until the finals on Sunday. That day will take place the gala televised by ‘laligasportstv’ live from 1 in the morning.
For his part, the president of the Kick Boxing Benidorm club and local organizer, Eduardo Martín, has expressed "the desire we had to have such an event and now we have it in Spain for the first time." For this reason he has taken the opportunity to “thank” the support of the Valencian and Spanish federations “to make the event possible”.
