The Ministry of Finance and the City Council have signed the act of free transfer of the property today
Benidorm obtains the use of the road workers' box on the Emilio Ortuño road, which will be used as a civic center and municipal branch
Benidorm City Council can now have the use of the old road workers box located on Vía Emilio. The Ministry of Finance has accepted the free transfer of the property in favor of the City Council requested by the plenary session in February 2020, with "the purpose of installing a new administrative extension and a civic-social center in this property", as pointed out today the mayor, Toni Pérez.
After the signing of the deed of transfer, in which the mayor of General Heritage, Jaime Jesús Pérez, has also participated, the mayor highlighted that “obtaining this property allows us to promote a new neighborhood project, generating new meeting spaces for residents. residents of this neighborhood, while we improve citizen service and attend to a request sent by the residents of the area ”.
Thus, the mayor recalled that “in previous calls for Participatory Budgets, proposals were presented to allocate this old box of road workers precisely to a civic-social center; a proposal that to date had not been able to attend since the City Council did not have the use of the property ”. However, “in view of the neighborhood requests and the needs detected in the neighborhood, it has always been in our spirit and will to make this project a reality, and for that reason the Ministry was asked to transfer the property, leaving a record already then of the use that they wanted to give it ”.
Toni Pérez has stressed that "with this project we continue to bring the local administration closer to the different neighborhoods of Benidorm, thus facilitating that citizens can carry out municipal procedures as close as possible to their homes, avoiding travel and possible waiting". The idea, he specified, “is that this new civic-social center be available to Saladar Neighborhood Association and users in general and incorporate a space as a municipal branch, thus following the model already implemented in Els Tolls and Maravall neighborhoods ”.
The 138-square-meter building is located on a 384-square-meter plot and "will require refurbishment to house the planned new municipal public services."
The mayor added that “in addition to generating new public services, with the acquisition of this property and its recovery as a civic-social center, we preserve and value a heritage element that reminds us of a part of the history of our country, personified in the figure of the road laborers, in charge since the 18th century of taking care of the state of the Spanish roads in every league on the road ”.
