Since 2003, 1,186 women have lost their lives in our country due to gender violence

Minute of silence in Benidorm in memory of the woman murdered in Marbella

16 January 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

This noon a minute of silence has been observed in front of the main door of the Benidorm City Hall in memory of the woman murdered in Marbella (Málaga), confirmed last Friday by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.

With the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, in the lead, the municipal corporation has shown with this silent protest its firmest rejection of this social scourge.

The fourth murder caused by sexist violence in Spain took place on January 8, the same day as the previous three, and ended the life of a 46-year-old Colombian woman. The alleged perpetrator of the crime, her 45-year-old ex-partner, mutilated the corpse and threw it into the sea, but given the evidence found by the Security Corps and Forces, she ended up confessing to the crime. Right now, the murderer is in prison.

Gender violence in 2023, in addition to the four women murdered, leaves six orphaned minors. There are already 1,186 fatalities due to gender violence since January 1, 2003, in Spain.

The Department of Equality reiterates its commitment to women and its commitment to the eradication of violence against them. For this reason, it makes its municipal services available to those who need them and reminds us of the convenience of using the free telephone against gender violence, 016, which answers in 52 languages 365 days a year and leaves no trace on the telephone bill, if It is well recommended to delete it from the call log after use.
