Benidorm has everything ready to celebrate the Cyclo-cross World Cup

16 January 2023
Benidorm tiene todo dispuesto para celebrar la prueba de la Copa del Mundo de Ciclo-cross

Toni Pérez highlights that "Benidorm is cycling territory" and the strong component of Tourism promotion
Carlos Mazón points to the Costa Blanca as "a benchmark in the organization and development of high-level events"

In the Provincial Palace, the president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Carlos Mazón, received this morning the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, the organizer of the cycling World Cup event -cross next Sunday, Pascual Momparler, the cyclist Felipe Orts, the best Spanish cyclocrossman of all time and current Spanish champion, and the president of the Valencian Cycling Federation, José Enrique Gutiérrez.

Pérez, who congratulated Orts for having achieved the Spanish championship yesterday and for the fifth time in a row, highlighted "the success of the call" for this championship in Benidorm, recovering a World Cup event that "hadn't been celebrated in Spain for eleven years."

The mayor of Benidorm has outlined the commitment to "a Benidorm very devoted to cycling" and reinforcement to "the promotion of sports tourism for which we are committed to Benidorm and the Costa Blanca".

Toni Pérez thanked the involvement of the Provincial Council and the support of President Mazón to develop this event, pointing out that "we are a cycling territory", Benidorm, the Costa Blanca, and the province of Alicante and stressed that at Sunday's event "we are going to have all the great champions; to the elite, both in the male and female categories and to take care of the base”. Benidorm's appointment next weekend, highlighted the mayor of Benidorm, will be "an event of global projection." With this test, Pérez said, "the promotion of cycling and the tourism promotion of a territory that is very friendly to cycling are united."

For his part, Carlos Mazón highlighted the effort made by both Benidorm City Council and Alicante Provincial Council to attract an event of such magnitude to the province "that helps us promote our destination and keep the Costa Blanca as a benchmark in the organization and development of high-level tests”.

In this sense, the president of the Diputación has highlighted that "the fact that the UCI Cyclocross World Cup is held in the city of Benidorm means that our municipalities are perfectly prepared and that both in winter and in summer we are receivers and emitters of large messages and major events, something essential to continue being an example in the sports and tourism field", indicated the president, who added that from the Provincial Council "we are committed to classic events such as La Vuelta, but also to innovation and by newer modalities that are breaking molds, opening doors and carving out an important niche in the international calendar”.

From the organization of the test, Pascual Momparler pointed out the "collaboration of  Benidorm City Council towards the event", highlighting that "in time and form, Benidorm has more than fulfilled all its commitments."

So far, more than 8,000 tickets have been sold to enjoy the test and there are 50 Media, mainly international, accredited. Toni Pérez has highlighted that "it will be a spectacular event, already on Saturday with the Benidorm CX and on Sunday with the junior and sub23 tests prior to the elite tests in the Foietes and El Moralet parks to demonstrate pure strength and technical capacity".

As the mayor pointed out, the program for Saturday the 21st starts at 8:30 a.m. with the CX Benidorm Costa Blanca test, after which, at noon, the official inspection of the route will take place, after which the official training sessions begin.

Starting at four in the afternoon, registration is.

Already on Sunday, the great day of the World Cup will begin at 8:30 with official training and an hour later the men's youth race, followed by the women's. The men's U23 test will take place at 12 noon and the elite races will take place at 1:40 p.m. for the women and at 3:10 p.m. for the men.

The circuit, the organization, the Benidorm City Council, and the Diputación have agreed, to have everything to make this event the best in the championship: straight lines on solid ground, mud, sandbank, and steps. For this, the parks of Benidorm El Moralet and Foietes, contribute all their capacity for this type of test: Parque de Foietes, an urban park, has a layout of great technical difficulty. The pit area is located there and the cyclists will face a phase of pure strength in which they will have to overcome a significant drop in level to fully enter El Moralet Park, a lush and demanding Mediterranean forest in which they will have to show off not only of the strength of his legs, but also of all his technical ability.

The Permanent Office of the test and the Press Center are located in the 'José Llorca Llinares' Social Center and the anti-doping control in the facilities of the 'Guillermo Amor' Stadium. At the same time, different parking areas have been organized around the circuit.
