The interior look of Paloma Pérez and the historical one of Paloma Marqués, in the exhibition ‘Ilustración Alicantina’
Next Friday Arly Jones will do a guided tour in l’Espai d’Art Urbà El Carrasco
Within the choral exhibition ‘Ilustration Alicantina’, installed on November 5 and open until January 14, l’Espai d’Art Urbà Ponent hosts the work by young emerging artists Paloma Marqués and Paloma Pérez. Both have visited this open-air exhibition space today together with the Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, and the curator of the exhibition, Alicia Lamarca, among others.
Each of the illustrators exhibits eight of her works, all of them with the woman as the axis. In the case of Pérez, the artist explained that the selected illustrations are part of the fanzine 'Mujeres en lucha', made in 2020, and which shows “31 women who fought for their family, for their country or for their environment and that they left a very important mark and that at times has been concealed ”. Each of the illustrations is accompanied by a brief review of the biography of the different women, highlighting the episodes or circumstances that made them unique and “precursors”. Among them, names as well-known as Cleopatra or the Princess of Éboli or practically unknown names such as Lakshmibai or Catalina de Erauso.
For its part, Paloma Marqués' proposal is a look inside with eight illustrations that function as "a compilation of different experiences of the last year", with some subtle reference to the pandemic, and with which the artist also intends to transfer " different values ”such as“ being true to oneself ”or“ encouraging freedom ”.
The Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage has invited “residents and visitors to enjoy this exhibition and discover these two young and talented artists from Alicante, who with simple compositions are capable of communicating and teaching a lot. While the illustrations signed by Paloma Marqués invite us to take a trip to the interior; those of Paloma Pérez guide us on an interesting and enriching walk through history ”.
After touring the exhibition, both have been delighted with this Espai d’Art and the concept of the show, and have affirmed that participating in it has been “a privilege”. Thus, Pérez has assured that “it is impressive” to see “your work in a space as fantastic as Paseo de Poniente”, and to do it to others with “such a large size and format”; while Marqués has thanked initiatives such as this exhibition that constitutes a way of "supporting art and local artists."
Next Friday, December 10, the artist Arly Jones will visit Benidorm, whose proposal in ‘Ilustración Alicantina’ can be seen in l’Espai d’Art Urbà El Carrasco.
