Benidorm hosts the presentation of the book ‘Operació AVL’, on the Valencian language pact

El Torrejó Municipal Center this afternoon hosted the presentation of the book 'Operation AVL', written by the journalist and professor Sergi Castillo and which recounts the complex process of political negotiation that became decades ago in the Valencian language pact and in the consequent creation of the Valencian Academy of Llengua (AVL). The mayor, Toni Pérez, and professors Rafael Alemany and Francesc-Xavier Llorca Ibi have accompanied the author in the presentation, in which a review has been made of the social and political context in which this pact was reached.
The mayor has highlighted that the work recounts a "very brave and honest political surgery" operation in which Benidorm occupies a prominent place as the scene of agreements and negotiations and also for being the common denominator of three characters who played a key role in the achievement of this pact: former mayor Eduardo Zaplana and former academics Rafael Alemany and Pere Mª Orts i Bosch.
After a brief summary on the historical and political context signed by Professor Llorca Ibi, Alemany himself - who prefaces 'Operació AVL' - has highlighted the documentation and research work carried out by Castillo to, from "his journalistic style", configure " an informative book "that makes this passage of recent Valencian history known" in an entertaining way, transmitting "enormous and very well contrasted information".
The author, for his part, has stressed that "the AVL is a great story of reconciliation", one of "the most important since the Transition" and the result of "the great effort of many people" who were political adversaries and who worked for reaching "a language pact that seemed impossible."
