The exhibition 'Romans against Romans' about Tossal de La Cala begins a visit to all schools in Benidorm
The exhibition 'Romans against Romans. Sertorio and the civil wars in the southeast of Hispania' begin this week a visit to all the schools in Benidorm to bring the little ones closer to this historical period and, mainly, to the 'castellum' of Tossal de la Cala. This itinerant exhibition reaches Primary schools supported with public funds by the Departments of Historical Heritage and Education and the University Institute of Archaeological Research and Historical Heritage (INAPH) of the University of Alicante.
The first centre in which the exhibition has made a stop is the CEIP El Murtal, to which the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillors of Historical Heritage and Education, Ana Pellicer and Maite Moreno, have travelled today.
Pellicer explained that "this exhibition proposes an informative tour of the network of forts built by the Roman general Sertorio, among which is our 'castellum' of Tossal, the site of these characteristics that has provided researchers with the most information".
The councillor has detailed that "with panels, the exhibition teaches students what a military barracks was like at that time or how soldiers lived", and "also informs them of the role played by the Tossal fort, whose mission was to monitor the traffic of the senatorial ships, contrary to Sertorio, between Ebusus -current Ibiza-, Dianium and Carthago Nova; as well as the alliances that they maintained throughout the contest”.
The councillor of Education, for her part, has pointed out that "this travelling exhibition is an excellent complimentary informative activity for educational centres and that it can also be completed with a visit to Tossal de la Cala itself, an option that they also have at their disposal schools and institutes of the city and that allows students to walk and 'step on the site with an archaeologist”.
Moreno has highlighted "the enthusiastic response of the city's primary schools, who did not want to miss the opportunity to host this travelling exhibition, which from this week until the beginning of June will be exhibited every week in a school."
'Romans against Romans. Sertorius and the civil wars in the southeast of Hispania' are made up of 6 double panels, 2 vertical ones measuring 1x1.5 meters and 4 horizontal ones measuring 1.5x1 meters.
