Benidorm’s University Programme for Older Adults (AUNEX) Begins the 2026–2027 Academic Year with 53 Enrolled Students

The University Programme for Older Adults (AUNEX) in Benidorm, delivered by Miguel Hernández University of Elche in collaboration with Benidorm City Council, has begun the 2026–2027 academic year with more than 50 students enrolled. A total of 53 students have registered for this year’s programme, including 33 in the first year and a further 20 in the second. Classes will run until May and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 8 pm at the José Llorca Linares Social Centre, as explained by Councillor for Social Welfare Ángela Zaragozí, whose department coordinates the programme in the city.

This year’s curriculum includes Political Economy; Discovering the Chemistry Around Us; Cybercrime Prevention Policies; Sociology; Memory: How I Use It and How I Can Make Better Use of It; The Web of Life; Law and Democracy; and Seminars. The varied programme covers a range of disciplines designed to stimulate students’ interest in different fields of knowledge.

AUNEX is an educational initiative run by Miguel Hernández University, whose main aim is to meet educational demand while promoting culture and enhancing the well-being of people aged 55 and over. It offers a programme of study in a university environment, with no previous qualifications required.

“Once again, Benidorm City Council is working in partnership to make this programme possible. It is becoming increasingly popular among our residents and forms part of our commitment to older people,” Zaragozí explained.

The University Programme for Older Adults comprises two academic years. Upon completion, students receive a certificate of participation, provided they have attended at least 80% of classes throughout the two-year programme. Teaching staff will provide all the necessary materials for both theoretical and practical sessions.
