'A pie de calle' campaingn moves to this area, whose action has had a subsidy from Alicante Provincial Council

Benidorm improves and renews the sewage system of the neighborhood of El Campo

24 November 2022
Campaña A pie de calle.

El Campo neighborhood will have a new sewage system thanks to the renovation and improvement works. An action that has been carried out by the City Council and that has received a subsidy from the Provincial Council of Alicante, of 45% of the cost of the investment, framed in the call for subsidies to local entities for the repair of hydraulic supply infrastructures and sanitation.

For this reason, 'A pie de calle' campaign has been moved to the area, headed by the councilors of Citizen Participation and Public Space, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González de Zárate, the vice-presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario , and neighbors of the neighborhood.

The work subsidized by Alicante Provincial Council has consisted of the renovation and repair of the sewage system, so that "there is a new fiber pipe and with better benefits" González de Zárate specified. The action "has a somewhat higher cost, but at the same time it is much faster and more comfortable for the neighbors and does not involve the completion of any work".

What has been done is to introduce a sleeve of about 74 meters of a synthetic material along the pipe "so that any leak is solved and allows the conduction to be maintained in an optimal state much longer". The councilor has specified that the fiber cement pipes in this area are around 50 years old.

Once this action has been completed, Costera del Campo street is ready "so that in the immediate future we can implement the single platform and gain accessibility, because the current sidewalks are narrow and force wheelchairs and carts to go down the road. ”. In other streets, such as Alcalde Agustín Navarro Alvado, vehicles will be able to continue entering "but with complete accessibility for pedestrians." He has also stressed that the current parking spaces will be maintained.

González de Zárate has affirmed that “we arrived with a clear political and management action, but knowing that there is always a lot to do. We do it with planning to tackle infrastructures and works in those points where the actions are more pressing”. "In short, provide solutions to problems based on their magnitude" he has concluded.

This intervention is complemented by other actions to improve accessibility and lighting that have also been carried out in the neighborhood. The councilor recalled that "there was no accessibility at the zebra crossings on some streets, whose sidewalks have very high curbs." "It was a very important work that solves an accessibility problem for people" he explained.

González de Zárate also recalled that all the lights in the neighborhood have been changed to have LED technology and remote management systems thanks to a grant from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). "It was one of the demands of the residents of this neighborhood and with it, we are solving an important problem for them," he said.
