The budget for these works amounts to an investment of €908,303.59, of which €454,151.79 are provided by European ERDF funds

The recovery of the El Moralet site, one of the most important actions of the Benidorm DUSI strategy, is progressing at a good pace. Today, on European Parks Day, Mayor Toni Pérez, together with an institutional delegation, visited this green lung of more than 102 hectares, covering part of the more than 17 kilometers of trails and paths that have been rehabilitated.

"Today we have already stepped on what is advanced in the environmental improvement of El Moralet, a project for the environmental recovery of the peri-urban area, very close to the residential, school and sports area of Benidorm," explained the mayor Toni Pérez.

With this action to improve some 17 kilometers of trails, residents, athletes and tourists will be able to enjoy a new passable and comfortable green lung a few meters from the urban fabric of Benidorm. The old layout of the trenet, as well as the ballast used to build the tracks, has been used to create a wide, accessible and comfortable pedestrian path. Three trails have also been laid out for mountain biking or mountain biking, a project by the Department of Sports that has had the collaboration of the Benidorm Athletics Club and the BTT section of the Benidorm Cycling Club.

"We have to point out that this incredible area is also a great tool for connecting different residential neighborhoods that will consist of three reception centers that will be fitted out with recreational areas and urban furniture for everyone to enjoy," declared Mayor Toni Pérez. "El Moralet will be very accessible as a great green lung that we are taking care of and pampering."

Residents and tourists who visit El Moralet will be able to enjoy its three recreational areas. Its location, close to the trails, next to the installation of tables, chairs and children's play areas make this place the perfect getaway to enjoy a day in nature. To ensure the safety of this natural area, the works also include the installation of solar streetlights at some points in El Moralet and wooden fences in areas with some unevenness.

It is not the only environmental improvement: one of the keys to these works is the protection of this natural area from climate change. To ensure the resilience of El Moralet, the project includes the construction of a firebreak area, the recovery of eroded areas and the installation of shelters for birds, among other actions to protect and promote biodiversity. Valuable ethnological elements have also been rescued, such as the terraces, which are also being restored.

"We are shortening the planned execution times and very soon we will develop activities here together with civil society, even though the park is not finished," said Mayor Toni Pérez, who underlined the participation of the city's citizen associations in the genesis of this project. action, as in the drafting of the DUSI strategy.

This action responds to the sixth Thematic Objective of the EDUSI that seeks the "improvement of urban areas, green areas and depressed spaces." The works, of which €454,151.79 have been contributed by European FEDER funds, will create a large green ring for citizens, athletes and tourists to enjoy Benidorm's natural heritage.
