Benidorm condemns with a minute of silence the murder of a woman in Villanueva de Gállego, Zaragoza
Benidorm City Council has called this noon a minute of silence in memory of the last victim of confirmed male violence in our country.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led the quiet concentration in which representatives of all municipal groups, officials, and members of the Neighborhood Council have also participated.
On this occasion, it is a 39-year-old woman, a resident of the Zaragoza town of Villanueva de Gállego who was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner last Friday, in the presence of the victim's six-year-old youngest son.
This would be the tenth victim of gender-based violence in Spain in 2023, a scourge that also produces the unfortunate figure of 14 orphaned minors. With this case, the number of fatalities in Spain rises to 1,192, since January 1, 2003.
Today, March 8, International Women's Day, the Department of Equality has once again reiterated that the City Council can make professionals specialized in gender violence available to any neighbor who feels threatened. It also recalls the existence of the telephone against Gender Violence, 016, which attends to victims of sexist violence, their families, and those around them 24 hours a day, every day of the year in 52 different languages. The number is not registered on the telephone bill but it is advisable to delete it.
