Benidorm condemns the latest case of sexist violence, the murder of a minor in Totana
The city of Benidorm has condemned a new crime of sexist violence, which has resulted in the murder of a minor under 17 years of age in the town of Totana (Murcia). With a silent rally at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España led by the mayor and the Councilor for Equality, Toni Pérez and Ángela Zaragozí, members of the Corporation and neighbours have shown their rejection of this case, which brings the number of murdered women to 3 by their partners or ex-partners since the beginning of 2022.
This latest crime occurred last Tuesday afternoon when the victim's ex-partner ended her life by repeatedly stabbing her. The 19-year-old man killed the young woman before she refused to resume her romantic relationship. After committing the crime, the murderer confessed the facts.
According to data from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, since 2003 1,129 women have been murdered, 14 of them minors.
The Department of Equality they have recalled that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened.
Likewise, it insists that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
