Benidorm awards the pedestrian street and renewal of Gerona street between Esperanto and Orts Llorca
The work is scheduled to begin on December 12 and the improvements will also allow Esperanto street section to connect to Plaza Triangular
Benidorm City Council has awarded the works of renovation and pedestrian street of Gerona between Esperanto and Orts Llorca, which has a budget of 379,824.28 euros. This action will make this stretch 100% accessible, eliminating all the architectural barriers - leaving sidewalks and roadway at the same height -, and leaving this stretch "totally pedestrian for the enjoyment of citizens," as explained by the councilman of Works , José Ramón González de Zárate. The project also includes the creation of a rainwater collection system that avoids small floods in case of heavy rains; The installation of ornamental trees and furniture; and the renovation of public lighting, which will operate with fiber optics, will have a "Wi-Fi system" and will be equipped "with plugs for charging mobile devices and tablets." The pavement will be "painted with different tones of blueand made of cement". De Zárate indicated that the winning company, Bertolín, has already been required to provide the bank guarantee, adding that in principle it is planned that "on December 9, the tastings" of the land will be made and on the 12th works will start, . According to the schedule set by the City Council, the renovation and pedestrianization could be completed in "mid-January". The councilor informed that the improvements of work contemplated by the company awarded in its offer - and that amount to 45% - will allow to act also in the section of Esperanto street that, from Gerona, links with Triangular Square. In this way, this stretch would be prepared to "connect with the future remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue." For this Friday a technical meeting is planned to organize the traffic while the work lasts, bearing in mind also that Orts Llorca Avenue is also under construction. De Zárate said that "we believe we can coordinate the two works", acting first in Gerona street on "the sidewalks to keep traffic", which has now been diverted from Orts Llorca Avenue. "We expect to have the lower part of Orts Llorca released" when work begins on the Gerona road, although "we do not rule out," he added, "that we have to cut both streets in particular moments."
