During the third wave of the pandemic, 41 health workers that provide service in La Vila Joiosa regional hospital, Benidorm Clinic Hospital, IMED Levante and the city's health centers have stayed in the tourist apartments offered by the City Council and Hosbec hotel management, according to the data transferred today by the mayor, Toni Pérez.

The mayor has indicated that "with this free service, a safe, comfortable lodging alternative has been made available to these professionals and away from risks for them and their families in the most critical moments of the pandemic." Toni Pérez recalled that “already in the first wave of the health crisis, this accommodation resource was activated, which we resumed at the beginning of last January and that it has been operational for just over two months, deactivating a few days ago after being verified and consolidated a very notable decrease in the incidence of Covid-19 in Benidorm and the region ”.

Toni Pérez has thanked Hosbec and its companies once again “for their commitment and involvement throughout this pandemic, being an example of good practices in terms of health security and at the same time making their resources available to a common good, either facilitating this accommodation to health professionals along with the City Council or offering hotels for medicalization in case of need ”.

At this point, he stressed that "the collaboration of the City Council with the health authorities has also been total and absolute from the first moment, offering all the logistical and infrastructure resources available to the city to meet the health needs first and now of short and medium term vaccination ”.

According to the figures communicated by the mayor, “in the two phases of the pandemic in which the accommodation service for health workers has been operational, 75 people have made use of these apartments, mostly professionals from La Vila Joiosa Regional Hospital who had elderly or vulnerable people in their environment ”. Thus, in this second phase, 41% of the people housed work in the regional hospital; while 22% are part of the staff of Hospital Clínica Benidorm and 20% of that of IMED Levante Hospital. The rest of the professionals provide service in Primary Care centers. Likewise, 85% of the professionals were nurses, nursing assistants and technicians.

As in the first wave, it has been the City Council, through #RAC -Network of Collective Aid- coordinated from the Department of the Presidency, which has been in charge of processing and managing this accommodation for interested health personnel, verifying "A greater demand for this service and also longer stays". Specifically, 50 users were interested in and enrolled in the service, although ultimately not all made use of it.

The mayor has stressed that "with this service we have tried to take care of those who take care of us, facilitating as much as possible the exercise of their task, which has been and continues to be vital."
