'Plastic mutations towards art' opens next July 1 and will be exhibited until October 2

Boca del Calvari prepares for MUT ART, the proposal by Olga Diego and PEPesART that transforms plastic into art

23 June 2022
El Boca del Calvari se prepara para MUT·ART, la propuesta de Olga Diego y PEPesART que transforma el plástico en arte

It completes the programming on sustainability designed by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage

The Boca del Calvari Museum is already preparing to host ‘MUT·ART. Plastic mutations towards art', the joint exhibition of the artists Olga Diego and PEPesART that will open its doors on July 1 and will be exhibited until October 2. An exhibition "in which each artist displays their project with a common link, reused plastic as an artistic element", explained the Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer. From this element, "a reflection is established on the role that plastic plays in our day-to-day life and the problems that its use and abuse cause on the ecosystem".

Pellicer has advanced that "we are talking about innovative proposals that, due to their size, composition and concept, will not leave anyone indifferent who visits this exhibition and discovers the plastic and visual narrative of both artists through the pieces born from recycled and reused plastics".

The mayor has stressed that "with MUT ART we once again give visibility to artists from our province who have great international projection" and "we complete the program for the third quarter of 2022 which, as we have already advanced, will be focused on sustainability, a trait distinctive and defining of Benidorm”.

This exhibition arrives in Benidorm curated by Rafa Soria and Annamaria Parejo, who emphasizes that "we must change the way of thinking, from reducing our dependence on single-use plastics to placing sustainability at the heart of everything future development”. A change that Olga Diego and PEPesART have already initiated.

The curators have pointed out that in MUT·ART both artists "have wisely managed to combine the balance between art and the environment" which is reflected in "pieces of extraordinary delicacy".

In 'MUT ART', Olga Diego presents three proposals: 'Automated Garden', 'JA Laboratory' and 'Mutations'. In the first, he takes Bosch's 'Garden of Earthly Delights' as his starting point to recreate a magical and dreamlike world full of fantastic beings: humanoids with antennae breasts, two-headed characters, mutated giraffes, fish with legs and endless creatures animated, all of them with translucent bodies and equipped with motors that breathe air-life into them.

In 'Laboratorio JA', the public "will learn through sketches, patterns, drawings and electrical systems how Olga Diego creates her pieces and gives them life, and will also find a series of photographs about the passage of 'Jardín Autómata' through cities such as Taipei, Paris or Valencia”.

Finally, and “exclusively for this exhibition in Boca del Calvari”, the artist presents 'Mutaciones', “the last process of her work, the transformation of her pieces into articulated beings that keep the essence of what was".

Regarding PEPesART, Pellicer has highlighted that "his work generates curiosity and at the same time sends a message of awareness about the use made of plastic and that in different exhibitions it has reached many corners of the Valencian Community and also to cities such as Buenos Aires or Lisbon”.

PEPesART brings to MUT ART its 'PlastificArte', made up of sculptural pieces with multiple readings that already reach a three-dimensional volume and that arise from the alteration of the plastic that in their hands is subjected to processes of casting, dissection, baking, freezing or cutting.

"All plastic that falls into the hands of the artist ends up being reused, recycled and transformed to obtain a sculptural piece or a photographic record", explained Pellicer, who has encouraged the public to visit "this original and impressive exhibition".
