Benidorm observes a minute of silence after the last sexist crime in Madrid
Benidorm has today expressed its rejection and condemnation of the latest sexist crime committed in Madrid on June 20 and has done so by observing a minute of silence before the main door of the City Council, with the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, at the head together with members of the municipal corporation and some neighbours.
With this crime, the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain amounts to 20 in 2022 and 1,150 since 2003 when the statistics began, and another death in Seville is also being investigated.
This time it is about a 44-year-old woman who died at the hands of her husband, who also killed a friend of hers with the same pistol and later committed suicide.
The Department of Equality reminds the population that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, he insists once again, that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
