The City Council granted the land where today a warehouse for mobile units of L9 of the TRAM is being built
The Regional Government assumes the request of the City Council to suppress the level crossing on Beniardá Avenue
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has received the Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi Spain, in the visit that the regional president has made to the city on the occasion of the improvement and expansion works that are being carried out in the TRAM station and the construction of the new warehouse for the mobile units of FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana), on land assigned to the public company by the City Council.
During the tour of the railway facilities, the mayor was accompanied by the councilors of Mobility and Urbanism, José Ramón González de Zárate and Lourdes Caselles, as well as members of the other groups with municipal representation. The managing director of FGV, Anais Menguzzato and technical staff from the public company were also present.
During the tour, the councilor confirmed to the mayor that the Generalitat will agree to the city's old aspiration to suppress the railway level crossing on Beniardá Avenue and its commitment to tramways, in an area that will be completely renovated thanks to the investments planned in EDUSI (Comprehensive Sustainable Urban Development Strategy).
España has announced that the works will involve an investment of 5 million euros. "The project is nearing completion - he specified - with a subsequent execution period of 22 months." To this investment, dedicated to the underground passage of vehicles, must be added the tramway and urbanization works in the area that will fully support the municipal coffers and whose budget amounts to 1,500,000 euros to be invested in two years.
Toni Pérez thanked the presence of España in the city and also the investment that is being made "which has a lot to do with the resilience of the city and the destination". The mayor recalled that the city, plunged into a "period of resistance" due to the economic crisis caused by the health situation, needs help to "better position ourselves in something fundamental" which in the tourism industry always stands out, "the commitment to innovation and sustainability ”.
The mayor has emphasized that the improvements carried out in the city must be sustainable and proposed from the "alliance" between the administrations, taking as a reference the ODS (Sustainable Development Goal), number 17 of the United Nations . Alliance between the Generalitat and the City Council that allows Benidorm to "continue to be the economic engine of the Valencian Community" and "a benchmark as the capital of Mediterranean tourism", bearing in mind that "the better it is for Benidorm, the better it will be for the Valencian Community".
The result of this alliance is the collaboration of the City Council with FGV, which has allowed the extension of the station, the construction of the rolling stock deposits and the extension of the platforms on municipally owned land. In return, the company is building a green track that will start from the station and will connect with "Guillermo Amor" Sports City.
Cicloparc at the TRAM station
During the visit to the city, the new Cicloparc was announced, which will soon begin to serve TRAM users. This is a supervised bicycle parking assistance which can be accessed with a personalized card and a valid transport ticket.
Users may leave their bicycle in the Cicloparc for a maximum of 24 hours and combine its use with the train’.
