Mobility raises alleging the bus service project for Benidorm and the region planned by the Consell
The councilman of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, will raise to the next plenary session a proposal for the City Council to formulate allegations to the Public Transport Project for Travelers by Road CV-206, Metropolitan Benidorm, designed by the Consell and recently published in the Official Newspaper of the Valencian Community (DOCV).
The proposal is based on the report prepared by the Engineering area that highlights that the model proposed by the Consell leaves the City Council "without competence in transport in the next 10-12 years", prevents it from "intervening in the purchase of other vehicles "beyond those" that are detailed in the specifications of the Ministry ", has" negative effects on the realization of the SUMP, the SUTP and the SEAP ", makes it impossible for the local administration" to act on the tariff policy ", and" originates obligations "and traffic problems in the city.
The head of Mobility has stressed that when preparing this project, the Conselleria "has not had Benidorm -which generates 5 million annual users- nor with the rest of the municipalities of the region", as "it has not attended the meeting requests "taken by the City Council prior to the publication of the project. At this point, he recalled that in a local meeting the municipalities of the Marina Baixa agreed on the convenience of "creating an inter-city transport where municipalities had something to say in terms of routes, stops and fares", following the model that already operates in the metropolitan area of Valencia.
De Zárate has detailed that, according to the area of municipal engineering, the project published by Conselleria "does not fix the problems" in the service pointed out in the Sustainable Urban Transport Plan (PTUS) as the existence of "very close stops", "speed commercial low "and" discomfort to travelers ", among others.
The mayor recalled that the PTUS recommended "reduce by 30% the number of current stops" in order to improve the collective transport service and encourage its use among the public. He also pointed out the need to reorder the lines to make them more rational.
Another disadvantage detected by the technicians is that the proposed project increases the number of lines that pass through Benidorm and with it the traffic of the city. In fact, 32 of the 38 lines pass through the urban area generating "new traffic, duplicated and tripled routes, and overlapping lines".
PTUS Approval
De Zárate has informed that it will also fully submit a proposal to approve the SUTP, and that, like the previous one, it was addressed last Monday during the meeting of the Mobility Council, in which the groups of the corporation, municipal technicians and representatives of business associations and neighborhood groups.
The mayor recalled that the members of the Council were given a deadline to present allegations, which have already been reported.
Among the actions collected in the SUTP is to establish an access control that allows to regulate the entry of discretionary transport to the urban center, and more specifically to the central almond formed between Ruzafa and Almendros streets. In addition, the times of entry and exit of these vehicles and the stops where they can load and unload passengers will be marked.
The objective of this measure is that "the passengers arrive as close as possible to the hotels, but do so in an organized and coordinated manner so that the residents can rest" and no traffic problems are created.
