The mayor highlights the offer of “more and better services” and the commitment “to sustainable transport and the reduction of polluting emissions”
Benidorm awards Elecnor the contract for the supply and installation of 13 new smart bicycle parking facilities for 541,326 euros
The Local Governing Board of Benidorm City Council has awarded the contract for the supply and installation of smart and secure bicycle parking facilities to Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos SAU for its bid of €541,326.04, which included a 24-month warranty extension. The contract was awarded through a standard open, harmonised procedure.
This contract falls under Axis 2, "Improving Energy Efficiency and Climate Labelling 075," Action 5 of the 2023 Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), Benidorm Vision 360, funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds. The execution period is set at six months.
The contract includes the installation of thirteen new smart bicycle parking facilities at various locations throughout the city, which currently has twelve such facilities. With the implementation of the new bicycle parking facilities, “we are trying to address the existing need to expand the current network of these facilities due to the significant increase in demand and the growing use of bicycles as a means of transportation,” stated Mayor Toni Pérez. This increase in the use of bicycles and other electric personal mobility vehicles “requires a guarantee regarding the protection and accessibility of these types of vehicles,” he added.
With these measures, Pérez emphasised the government's commitment “to promoting sustainable transportation and reducing polluting emissions.” The bicycle parking facilities have a remote control system accessible to users and are equipped with internal video surveillance and lighting. The use of these facilities is managed through an app that users download to their mobile devices, which provides them with a code to open and close the facility to leave or retrieve their bicycle. “We are offering more and better services and continue to promote the use of bicycles and non-polluting transportation,” the mayor concluded.
The thirteen new smart bike parking facilities will be located on Ametlla de Mar Avenue, Albir Road, Jaén Street (Cultural Centre), Municipi Avenue, the parking lot of the former Conservatory, two on Fragata Street (Salto del Agua), the confluence of Jaime I and Acacias Street, Plaza de España, Guillermo Amor Sports City, the park and ride facility on Beniardá Avenue, La Vila Joiosa Avenue (next to the Morales Tower) and the confluence of Jaime I and Nicaragua.
