The colored pavers will be painted and the bollards will be replaced by trees

The City Council will perform improvement works in Apollo XI at the request of merchants and hoteliers

21 February 2018
El Ayuntamiento realizará obras de mejora en Apolo XI a petición de comerciantes y hosteleros

The City Council of Benidorm has planned the realization of new works of improvement in Apolo XI street, in response to a request made by merchants and restaurateurs of this central public road. The councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, has announced the performance in a break during the recording of the videos of 'Benidorm fet a mà', the traditional trade promotion campaign organized by the City Council in collaboration with the students of the degree of Marketing and Business of the IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch.

De Zárate pointed out that there has already been a "first reconversion to the pedestrian zone" of Apolo XI two years ago and now, with the work on Tomás Ortuño and La Garita streets, traffic is moving away from the center of the city, which it gives the area an outstanding commercial character. In fact, the initiative comes from the same traders and restaurateurs of Apolo XI who have proposed to the City Council to provide the area with "much more atmosphere and color" by painting the cobblestones in colors and "replacing the current bollards with trees".
González de Zárate recalled that prior to the paving works "there were many empty establishments" but thanks to the actions carried out by the City Council "now they are practically full", which has shown that "pedestrian streets are good for trade, as it has been demonstrated in Apollo XI. " The councillor also suggested that it will not be a difficult work to undertake. "The most important thing," he underlined, "is already done," such as the channeling of drinking water, fiber optics or gas. On this occasion, what is intended "is that the street is more beautiful and more attractive for people to enjoy it".

Benidorm fet a mà

The councilors of Commerce and Employment, Ana Pellicer and Mª Jesús Pinto, together with González de Zárate and technicians from both municipal areas, today accompanied the IES students from Pere Maria Orts i Bosch, Aarón Gómez, Gonzalo Moncunill and Vicent Pajarón visiting the shops that have participated in the second day of recordings of 'Benidorm fet a mà' campaign.

For Ana Pellicer Apolo XI "is a model street" that has been able to adapt to all situations and needs. With great personality, with some merchants who are always involved in the activities that are done throughout the year and are constantly willing to collaborate. For her part, Mª Jesús Pinto insisted on the transcendence of commerce for Benidorm. "I will never tire of saying," she stressed, "how important it is for our streets, for the center of our city, for the large number of jobs," so "we must raise awareness" of its importance: " they are the light and joy "of our city, she ended.

The establishments of Apolo XI street that participate in 'Benidorm fet a mà' are herbalist 'Vivir mejor' and orthopedics 'Ayudar más', Mercería Soriano, traditional clothing 'Xambra', Artisanal Hat, Confecciones Vicens and La Despensa. It is expected that next week the campaign will be transferred to Rincón de Loix.
