Benidorm hosts the II International WAKO Spanish Open, with 750 wrestlers from 9 countries
Benidorm is hosting this weekend the second edition of the International WAKO Spanish Open-Benidorm Top Fighters, in which 750 fighters from nine countries participate, as announced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez; and the president of the KickBoxing, Muay Thai, and D.A Comunitat Valenciana Federation, Eduardo Martín, at a press conference in which the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, and the vice president of the Federation, Francisco Ferrando, also participated.
The mayor has advanced the starting signal for this event will be this afternoon, with the weigh-in and registration of participants and tomorrow, December 2, the competition will begin, in which there are planned "more than 550 clashes in all combat modalities, divided into tatami and ring”.
In addition, this sporting event, which has the support of the Spanish Federation, will have media repercussions, since "Sunday's finals will be broadcast live on Ligasportstv starting at 10:00 am."
Regarding the competition, the youngest will be able to play their competition from the age of 10 in the category of 'Young cadet' (younger cadet), passing to 'old cadet' (older cadet), 'junior', 'senior' and veterans from 41 years old, being for these the disciplines of 'point fight', 'light contact' and 'kick light' in the tatami modality.
Within the ring modality, in which KO is allowed, the 'junior' and 'senior' categories will dispute the disciplines of 'full contact', 'low kick', and 'K1'.
Martín has highlighted that this Benidorm Open is "the only one that takes place in Spain within the WAKO calendar, which is the federation that, if all goes well, will be present at the Los Angeles Olympics", and has thanked the City Council for "its support". to the event.
The president of the Valencian Federation has indicated that from the entity "we are committed to this type of event so that our athletes grow at a sporting level and, above all, have the opportunity to participate in an event of this nature close to home"; and he has advanced that "in future years we hope" that the event in Benidorm will continue to grow and "reach 2,000 or 3,000 participants".
