The budget for this new social space amounts to 1,994,770 euros, 50% co-financed by the City Council and FEDER funds
Benidorm advances the Social Mediation Center project
The new Benidorm Social Mediation Center, an action of the city's Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), is closer to becoming a reality. "The Local Government Board has already approved the drafting service for this innovative project that will offer the residents of Benidorm the municipal mediation service free of charge," declared the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez. "With the EDUSI of Benidorm, we expand the spaces for social care and decent housing to continue standing out as a pioneering city in public services."
The social mediation service, which the council launched last March, "is a free and very innovative service that helps manage and resolve conflicts between two parties to prevent disputes from ending up in court" explained mayor Tony Perez. “The new Social Mediation Center will allow us to provide this service, which is temporarily provided in the José Llorca Linares social centre, with a large space of more than 600 square meters intended to improve the care we offer our neighbours.”
The wording of the approved project contemplates an innovative building of 666 square meters on Portugal Avenue, in the Els Tolls neighbourhood. A large space distributed over two floors that will include customer service offices, a training room and meeting rooms next to the waiting and citizen service areas. The design, in white concrete, will also revitalize the aesthetics of this residential neighbourhood that is part of the EDUSI Benidorm area of action.
The architect who will be in charge of drafting and directing the construction project for the new Social Mediation Center is the professor emeritus of the Polytechnic University of Madrid Ignacio Vicens. The architect, who signs buildings such as the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Navarra or the Parish Church in Collado Villalba, has been awarded prestigious awards such as second place in the CEMEX XXV International Award or the Architecture Award of the Spanish Confederation of Organizations (CEOE).
With a total budget of 1,914,770 euros, co-financed 50% by the Benidorm City Council and the European Union through ERDF funds, the Social Center for Municipal Mediation joins the wide range of social care spaces in Benidorm. This new building, which follows the line of improvement of public services, responds to Line of Action 11 of the EDUSI Benidorm which seeks the "conditioning and improvement of the provisions for social care, labour insertion and citizen participation, optimizing the management and the use of public spaces.”
