The City Council has moved the accessible public toilets, now equidistant between the beaches of Mal Pas and Poniente

Benidorm recovers the Poniente balustrade for the landscaped area of Paseo de Colón, which gains prominence

03 August 2022
Paseo de Colón

The Department of Public Space has recovered part of the old balustrade of Paseo de Poniente for its installation next to the landscaped area of Paseo de Colón, which "with this action gains prominence and is better incorporated into this urban environment so travelled by people who they go to the Mal Pas beach, the Nautical Club, the port and the initial stretch of the Poniente beach”.

This has been transferred by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who together with the councillor of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, has approached the Paseo de Colón today to see the evolution of the work being carried out by the municipal Technical Services.

Toni  Pérez recalled that "when construction work began on the new Paseo de Poniente, back in 2006, the iconic balustrade was removed, the same one that appears in our Castell". These elements "were kept in the municipal warehouse in anticipation of their later use, either to replace pieces that could deteriorate in the Castle or to be placed in other parts of the city."

After using part of these elements on the Mal Pas beach, "now we use the top of the balustrade to improve the aesthetics of Paseo de Colón" and "we thus visually recover the landscaped balcony of the Les Roques neighbourhood that went unnoticed by many passersby" and in which there are unique tree elements, such as a palm tree with four children.

The mayor has indicated that "coinciding with the installation of the balustrade, in coordination with the Department of Beaches and the Environment, it has been decided to move the accessible public toilets several tens of meters, which are now located at a point equidistant between the beaches of Mal Pas and Poniente”.

Some bathrooms, he recalled, are "available to beach users, and especially to people who go to accessible beach points." Likewise, the accessible itinerary to these baths has been marked on the asphalt.

Toni Pérez recalled that "with this action, we continue to improve Paseo de Colón, a point that is very valuable to us and in which the lighting has also recently been renewed with the installation of 'LED' lights, within the first phase of the energy efficiency project subsidized by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE)”.

“We continue with detailed urban surgery operations to beautify our public spaces, making them friendlier, more attractive and accessible, and, in this case, also rationalizing resources as much as possible since we are reusing material that was already available and that is absolutely identification of Benidorm”, he pointed out.
