The departure will take place at 8:15 a.m. from the island and the arrival of the first participants is scheduled 45 minutes later
The XXI Swimming Crossing between l'Illa and Mal Pas will be held this Sunday with 330 swimmers
This coming Sunday, August 27, the XXI edition of the Swimming Crossing between l'Illa and Mal Pas Beach will be held in the waters of Benidorm Bay, which is organized every year by the Sports Department of Benidorm City Council in collaboration with the departments of Public Security Mobility, Beaches, and the Yacht Club.
The test, which has been presented this morning, continues with its traditional route and will start from l'Illa so that the participants will have to swim the distance that separates the islet from the Mal Pas beach, some two nautical miles that are equivalent to 3.6 kilometers.
The departure will begin at 8:15 from the island and the swimmers must complete the test in a maximum time of two hours.
Registration opened on August 1, and the places were sold out in just two hours, which accounts for the pull of the test among swimmers. In total, there will be 330 participants in this edition.
The collection of start numbers and chips will take place the same day of departure between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. at the Yacht Club. It will also be mandatory that during the test all swimmers make use of the location buoy and a cap that will be given to them before starting.
As in previous years, the official timing will be done by Chiplevante. The start will take place at 8:15 a.m. “and it is estimated that the arrival of the first participants will take place around 54 minutes later. The maximum time set to complete the journey has been set at two hours” explained the Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá.
Once the test is over, a refreshment area will be organized in the Yacht Club and later the trophies will be delivered.
Jordá recalled that the last winners in the men's and women's categories, Miguel Bou and Ángela Cerdán, are registered in the race "so they are among the main favorites to win." The record for the journey has been held since the 2013 edition by the swimmer Igor Aranguren with a time of 41'51".
