Benidorm acogerá el sábado una velada de boxeo en el auditorio Óscar Esplá

Óscar Esplá Auditorium in Parque de l'Aigüera will host this coming Saturday, August 26, an evening of boxing organized by the Department of Sports and the Valencian Boxing Federation. The fighting will begin at 9:00 p.m.

The event was presented today at a press conference by the Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá, accompanied by the president of the Valencian Federation, Leopoldo Bonías, the coach Jesús Labrador, and the boxer Caterina Tander.

Attendees will witness men's and women's bouts in the Olympic and classical modalities "and it will mean Antonio Hernández's return to the ring after a long inactivity to face Felipe Hernández from Sagunto," the councillor pointed out. The main fight of the night will be the one that faces Marcos Jiménez and Elías Lucescu.

Leopoldo Bonías thanked the City Council for its support for the evening and specified on his part that five Olympic bouts will be held, of which the first two will be in the under 16 category, one of them with the boxer from Benidorm Carlos Sacanell. Starting at 10:30 p.m., those of the classic amateur modality will begin, which will be assisted in the corner by the local fighters of champion Kiko Martínez.

On the other hand, both Jesús Labrador and Caterina Tander have encouraged boxing lovers to "come to the evening tonight because there will be very good fights and the presence of fans is the best way for us to continue having evenings." By the way, Tander has announced that she will fight in England on September 30 for the European title in the lightweight category.

At the end of the press conference, the president of the Valencian Federation presented the Councilor for Sports with a copy of the book "100 Years of boxing in the Valencian Community" which includes posters and chronicles of fights held in the Community, including one held in 1989 in Benidorm's bullring for the European championship in which the Spanish champion Poli Díaz fought several times.
