The XI Benidorm International Organ Festival returns tomorrow Friday with Juan de la Rubia
The XI Benidorm International Organ Festival returns to the scene this coming Friday, December 1, in the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana with the concert starring organist Juan de la Rubia starting at 8 p.m., as reported by the Department of Culture of the city council.
Born in Vall d'Uixó, Juan de la Rubia is the titular organist of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. He trained in several European capitals and in the beginning, he received up to five extraordinary awards in various specialities, in addition to the first prize in the Permanent Competition of Musical Youth of Spain and El Primer Palau award, which contributed to significantly boosting his career.
With incessant activity as a soloist, conductor, accompanist and continuator, he has graced the main stages of thirty countries around the world, in addition to collaborating with the main choral groups and soloists in the country. In this last decade, he has also specialized in improvisations on silent films, among which 'Faust and Nosferatu' or 'Metropolis' by Fritz Lang stand out.
Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and professor at Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, he regularly holds masterclasses in Budapest, Stuttgart and Rome.
Tomorrow's program will be composed of the works 'Fantasy and Fugue in G minor' by J. S. Bach, 'Fantasy in Four Parts on Une jeune fillette' by E. du Caurroy, 'Capriccio sopra il cucu' by J. K. Kerll, 'Sonata in D' by M. Albéniz, 'Nun komm der Heiden Heiland' by J. S. Bach, 'Passacaglia and fugue in C minor', 'Mad rush' by Ph. Glass and will end with an 'Improvisation' by the organist himself.
