The weekly tests by the municipal laboratory, which are also carried out in sand and footbaths, certify the quality parameters
The water quality of Benidorm beaches, excellent one more summer
The quality of the water of the beaches in Benidorm is, once again, excellent. This is certified by the weekly tests carried out by the municipal laboratory, which with the same periodicity also evaluates the quality of the sand and footbaths on the beaches, as the Councilors for Health and Beaches, Ana Pellicer and Mónica Gómez, have recalled.
Pellicer stressed that “Benidorm was a pioneer in the implementation of a municipal laboratory and in measuring the quality of the water on its beaches to verify that the recommended sanitary parameters are met at all times; a work that has been carried out since 1985”.
The councillor for Health explained that "the municipal laboratory performs tests of the water, sand, and footbaths on the beaches throughout the year since the beaches of Benidorm are active for twelve months". Due to the greater influx of people and activity during the high season, sampling and tests are carried out weekly in summer, while the rest of the months are carried out every 15 days.
In the case of water, the staff of the municipal laboratory takes samples at nine specific points, which are always the same: three on Levante beach, three in Poniente, and one in each of the coves (Tí Ximo and l' Almadrava) and on Mal Pas beach.
According to Pellicer, after taking the samples, a test is carried out, in which the pH and the possible presence of bacteria in the water are measured, among other parameters. "If any incident is detected, the laboratory staff takes additional samples to verify a possible anomaly," she specified.
In this sense, she stated that these analytics "are tremendously useful because they allow us to have up-to-date information on the state of the beaches at all times, and even detect possible eventualities that may occur and act immediately."
The person in charge of Beaches, for her part, stressed that "the beaches are our main tourist attraction and for this reason we take their management seriously, focusing all our efforts on always ensuring environmental quality and the numerous services that are provided" . This effort, she added, "is endorsed with the different certifications and quality seals that Benidorm obtains year after year, after passing demanding external audits." Among these certifications are the Q for Tourist Quality, the Qualitur and EMAS flags, and, now also, the S for Sustainability.
