Twelve establishments participate in the II edition of the Cocktail Contest included in Benidorm Gastronómico
Four awards will be given: two chosen by a professional jury and another two by the public
Benidorm Gastronómico 2023 resumes its activity this September and will do so hand in hand with one of the most innovative events on the annual calendar: the second edition of the Cocktail Contest, which will be celebrated from September 1 to 10 which is scheduled involving twelve establishments in the city.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, participated this Friday in the presentation of this event, where he praised the capacity of this type of activity to "reinforce the brand and gastronomic seal of Benidorm and improve the customer experience, which is a constant of the daily work of the sector”.
In addition, the mayor also highlighted that this year "participation is growing compared to the first edition" and has traveled back in time to remember the "historical story that Benidorm has in the world of cocktails", where there came to be a bartenders club whose founding members include the godfather of Benidorm Gastronómico 2023, Manuel Martínez Hernández.
The presentation took place on the fifth floor of the Torrejó Municipal Building, in an act that also brought together the Vice President of Abreca, Alex Fratini; the godfather of Benidorm Gastronómico 2023, as well as numerous local hoteliers, participants, and members of the municipal Corporation.
The contest, which starts on Friday, September 1, will offer the public the chance to taste two cocktails of their creation and preparation at each location: one with alcohol and the other without alcohol so that all public profiles are covered and catered for. In both cases, there will be a single price of 7 euros.
Once the contest is over, various prizes will be awarded. On the one hand, the First Prize of the Jury for the Best Cocktail 2023 and the Special Mention of the Jury for the Best Non-alcoholic Cocktail 2023, which will be decided by a professional jury in a closed-door tasting that will take place on September 13.
In addition, the public will also have a voice to assess the participating cocktails; in this case, by popular vote. To do this, during the days that the event lasts, customers will be able to vote for their favorite and participate in a draw for 6 vouchers that can be exchanged for a cocktail each at any of the participating establishments. The proposals with the most votes will obtain the Public Special Mention for the Best Cocktail 2023 and the Public Special Mention for the Most Popular Cocktail 2023.
The names of the winners will be announced on September 19, in an act where, among other things, the winning bartender will be rewarded with a trip as a "show of recognition for professionals in our sector", indicated the representative of Abreca .
The mayor of the city has highlighted that events like this "constitute a showcase" from which to "show and value the good work of professional mixologists and promote this offer, which in Benidorm can be lived at ground level, with local located at the foot of the beach and pedestrian streets, or height, with the roof terraces that are having such a good reception among residents and tourists”.
Likewise, he congratulated and thanked Abreca for its efforts and recalled that Benidorm Gastronómico is an "already consolidated" brand to "value gastronomy and everything that is produced and served in our bars, restaurants and cafeterias".
