Raúl Mesa pavilion resumes activity tomorrow after the completion of the reform and expansion works
The completion of the reform and expansion works of Raúl Mesa pavilion in the Guillermo Amor Sports City will allow activity to resume at the sports facility with absolute normality tomorrow, Saturday.
In this case, the first scheduled activity is a training day starting at 7:00 p.m. in which men's and women's teams in the youth category of Benidorm Beach Volleyball Club will take part.
The works have had a final budget of 1,175,328 and had a grant of 294,000 euros from the 'Plan +Cerca 2020' of the Provincial Council of Alicante.
Raúl Mesa pavilion is an installation that was more than 35 years old in which problems of humidity, accessibility, and others typical of the years of the installation had been detected, which now, thanks to this municipal investment, have been solved.
The roof has been completely renovated, accessibility has been improved to allow access for people with functional diversity and spaces have been created for spectators, with a new grandstand, new changing rooms, and an area for the media that follow the clubs that They are based in the Raúl Mesa.
On the roof of the pavilion, the works have focused in a special way on its support with the perimeter enclosing walls. Likewise, the system of water drainage gutters has been eliminated to redirect rainwater through runoff from the roof, which is diverted to a new gutter on the main façade and a system for redirecting water discharge on the north or rear façade.
The pavilion has been extended to the east side, located next to the main access, building a new grandstand for spectators. Below this new stand are the new changing rooms and toilets with universal accessibility.
The Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá, who visited the sports facility today, indicated that the objective of this action is to "provide better conditions of use and safety" to one of the "most popular and used by athletes" facilities and In this specific project, he highlighted "the integration with the surroundings of Ciudad Deportiva" and with "a neighborhood as special as Colonia Madrid".
Jordá reiterated, as in all the initiatives carried out by the City Council, the need to achieve "the highest levels of universal accessibility" that must be "especially cared for in municipal facilities" as he has specified, "they are in the new Raúl Mesa”.
