Benidorm expresses its rejection of the latest sexist crime committed in Granada
Benidorm Municipal Corporation has once again shown its rejection of the latest confirmed sexist murder with a minute of silence. This is a 39-year-old woman, who was murdered by her partner on May 6 in the province of Granada.
Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España has hosted this silent rally that has been led by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, as well as other members of the Corporation.
At first, it was thought that the woman had died as a result of the traffic accident suffered by the vehicle in which the couple was travelling. However, the autopsy revealed that the woman was already dead when the incident occurred. The investigation suggests that her husband strangled her and later caused the accident to hide the crime from her. The man committed suicide hours later.
With this there are already 37 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,221 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted.
The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
