Toni Pérez inaugura el encuentro de la Sociedad Europea de Oncología Radioterápica que se celebra en Benidorm

25 of the most important specialists in this branch of medicine meet for two days in the city

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez,  has inaugurated this afternoon at the Barceló Asia Gardens Hotel the meeting of the European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) and its European Group of Brachytherapy (GEC), where today and tomorrow 25 of Europe's leading specialists in Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics take part.

The organizers of this meeting, named "BRAPHYQS-UROGEC", have chosen Benidorm to celebrate its semi-annual meeting thanks to the presence and relevance in the European Brachytherapy Group (GEC) of some of the members of the Institute for Integral Cancer Treatment of Hospital Clínica Benidorm which also collaborates in the organization.

Together with Toni Pérez, the chief of the Radiotherapy Service of Hospital Clínica Benidorm, Dr. Manuel Santos, and the current President of GEC-ESTRO, Dr. Christian Kirisits, presided over the opening ceremony. The mayor has put in value the importance for Benidorm to host meetings of such importance in the field of health, and thanked the organizers for choosing our city to hold their meeting in Spain.

The GEC group meets approximately every 6 months in different parts of Europe. It is in this type of congress where the greatest specialists dictate the recommendations to follow in treatments of Brachytherapy in Europe and, in many occasions, in the whole world.

At the meeting in Benidorm two important subgroups of the organization: the group that will deal with the Physical Physiological aspects of Brachytherapy (BRAPHYQS), whose coordinator is Dr. Frank-Andre Siebert; And the group that will work on the clinical aspects of Urological Brachytherapy (URO-GEC) treatments, whose coordinator is Dr. Peter Hoskin.
